Iris Sandy Rose

Iris ‘Sandy Rose’ is a Tall Bearded (TB) iris cultivar introduced by hybridizer Opal Brown in 1988. This elegant iris stands at a height of 34 to 35 inches (86 to 89 cm) and blooms in the midseason, offering a striking addition to any garden. The flower’s standards, or upper petals, exhibit a delft rose hue, while the falls, or lower petals, present a complementary sandy rose color. Adding to its charm, the coral-colored beard is delicately tipped with lavender, enhancing the overall visual appeal. The blossoms are notably ruffled and flaring, contributing to a sense of movement and grace in the garden.

The development of ‘Sandy Rose’ involved a cross between seedling 80-1D9, derived from ‘Pink Sleigh’ and ‘Dawn Light,’ and ‘Blushing Pink.’ This lineage has imparted desirable traits such as robust growth and a captivating color palette. Gardeners appreciate ‘Sandy Rose’ not only for its aesthetic qualities but also for its resilience and adaptability. It thrives in well-drained soil with full sun exposure, making it suitable for various garden settings, from formal borders to informal cottage gardens.

Incorporating ‘Sandy Rose’ into a garden design brings a touch of classic beauty and sophistication. Its harmonious blend of rose tones and elegant form make it a standout specimen, whether planted en masse or as a focal point among other perennials. The midseason bloom time ensures that ‘Sandy Rose’ contributes to a continuous display of color throughout the growing season. For iris enthusiasts and novice gardeners alike, ‘Sandy Rose’ offers a delightful combination of beauty, performance, and heritage.
