Q. How do you get rid of hock rubs?
A. It depends on where the rubs are. If they are on the insides of the hocks (the hocks are rubbing together as your horse moves), you should explain the problem to your farrier. Your farrier will be able to make small changes in the trimming of your horse’s feet to help eliminate the hock interference. If the interference is too severe to be alleviated by corrective hoof trimming, or if the rubs are along the backs of his hocks, you may need to use hock boots to prevent the trauma/irritation that’s causing the rubs.
