Q. I’m behind my pony’s motion a lot. If I moved my legs toward the girth more, would that fix it?
A. I would guess your legs are already too far forward, forcing your seat too far back in the saddle, causing you to feel like you’re behind the motion. Move yourself as far forward in the saddle as is comfortable, and have your instructor or another person on the ground visualize a verticle line drawn from your ear to the ground. The center of your hip and heel should lie along this line. I suspect your heel is currently significantly ahead of this line. Moving it back in line with the other elements will make it possible for you to stay properly positioned in the front of the saddle, which in turn will allow you to ride with your pony rather than behind him.
